The Bannock Burn River Woodland Development Plan Project
TreeLink Stirling is very proud to be one of eleven projects awarded funding from the Riverwoods Development Grant in September 2025. Our funding is being used to develop a Bannock Burn River Woodland Development Plan (Phase 1) collaboratively with local communities and landowners.

The first phase of the project focuses on the middle section of the river which is mainly urban but also includes some of the rural land either side of the city. The full project runs from the North Third Dam (southwest of Stirling) through the city and out to the Forth estuary.
We are identifying opportunities for restoration, expansion and management of woodland along the Bannock Burn, to improve the extent, quality and connectedness of riverside woodland and other waterside habitats that are important for wildlife.

This work will help achieve TreeLink Stirling's Crown of Trees vision to create a 36km ring of trees around Stirling with walking and cycling routes, enhancing community and visitor access both to the river and Stirling’s cultural and historical heritage.

Our Funders
The development plan is funded as part of the Riverwoods Programme. The Riverwoods Blueprint Project is a £3.5 million project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players, and others. It sits at the core of Riverwoods partnership activities and aims to develop a practical blueprint for river woodland restoration and creation across Scotland.
